Once upon a time when you registered to vote you could specify anything
as your party affiliation. I had a friend that registered with the
"Silly" party once. But three times now I have tried to register as a
Socialist and three times my voting card comes back with my party
affiliation as "DEM." I figure that the county recorder:
1) uses DEM as short for Democratic Socialism.
2) feels I was kidding because no sane person would be a Socialist.
3) thinks that Democrats and Socialists are the same damn thing.
4) feels that registering as a Democrat is a permanent thing sort of like a tattoo.
5) can't read.
